Bootcamp is an acting focused intensive that really gets into the nitty gritty of the Chubbuck technique, which provides a more comprehensive understanding of acting as a craft using the Chubbuck Technique.

The Chubbuck Workshop is a professional acting experience that gives young actors the tools they need to move from the first read through to performance using the Chubbuck Technique. Claire takes a group of aspiring artists and guides them through the application of breaking down the script to create an inspiring performance while learning to apply the Chubbuck Technique to a performance.

The basics and terminology of the Chubbuck Technique are introduced, then more fully explained and defined. This class provides each student with a comprehensive set of tools and techniques to create an organic performance that is unique to each actor.  They will participate in a series of dynamic acting exercises designed to highlight the basic techniques that go into really powerful acting and then implement those skills while developing and rehearsing a scene.

Over the course of the week…

Students will be assigned scenes and roles from half hour television programs to understand and perform while applying the principles outlined in "The Power of the Actor" by Ivana Chubbuck. Students will learn how to choose an objective, turn beats into actions, use inner monologue, and integrate their personal history with the character using the tools of the Chubbuck Technique to pursue a vital goal dynamically. By encouraging students to embrace their vulnerabilities, the Chubbuck Technique enables young actors to shed their shells and portray their most empowered selves.

This weeklong intensive is designed for dedicated young actors (ages 15 - 19) who are embarking upon a professional career or have a strong foundation of their craft. This demanding program is based on the conviction that young actors should be trained like adults, but altered to fit the emotional realities of young adults.

To get the most out of this experience, we suggest students have a basic understanding of storytelling, narrative structure, script analysis and acting. Previous experience with the Chubbuck Technique is not required, but would help.
